The King’s Trust’s 50th Anniversary

Buckingham Palace Hosts The King’s Trust’s 50th Anniversary Attended by The A&H Foundation

June 12, 2026

On 14 May 2026, The A&H Foundation was honoured to attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace, hosted to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The King's Trust, an organisation that has supported more than 1.3 million young people across the UK since its founding five decades ago.

The occasion brought together philanthropists, business leaders, and advocates from across the charitable sector, united by a shared commitment to creating opportunity for young people. For The A&H Foundation, whose own work is rooted in the belief that every child deserves a fair chance to flourish, the afternoon was both an inspiration and a reaffirmation of why this work matters.

The King's Trust was founded in 1976 by His Majesty King Charles III, then the Prince of Wales. He used his Royal Navy severance pay of £7,400 to establish pilot projects supporting young people during a period of mass unemployment and social unrest in the United Kingdom. What began as a modest intervention has grown into a global network of extraordinary scale and ambition. In the 2024/25 financial year alone, the Trust assisted 67,368 individuals, helping them build confidence, develop practical skills, and move into work, education, or training. Three in four young people supported by the Trust go on to positive outcomes, and since 1976, the organisation has generated at least £11.4 billion in social value, with every £1 invested yielding £5 in social benefits.

The A&H Foundation also had the honour of meeting King Charles III during the reception, a moment of particular significance given that His Majesty's lifelong commitment to young people has long been a source of inspiration. His vision, sustained over five decades through The King's Trust, stands as a powerful example of what long-term, values-led philanthropy can achieve.

The afternoon at Buckingham Palace reaffirmed what The A&H Foundation has always believed: that when the right people come together around a shared purpose, the scale of what is possible expands considerably.

The A&H Foundation is delighted to have been part of The King's Trust's 50th anniversary celebration, and extends its congratulations to everyone whose dedication has built this organisation into what it is today.
